Local businesses our mom loves

In honor of our mom’s birthday today, we asked her to help us share more local businesses to support. We’ve already highlighted several of her favorite spots like Swansons Nursery and Labels Consignment, here are a few more she likes in her own words!

Our favorite beekeeper

When we said yes to let a friend start a bee hive in the backyard we had no idea that they would become a great local honey business! Rainy Day Bees has excellent neighborhood honey as well as bee pollen and beeswax. You can find them at farmers markets around the city and have great Instagram stories if you want to learn all about beekeeping #savethebees

Ready for Hawaii?

Verve Bowls in Ballard is the place. I love their basic Acai bowl with added chia seeds and bee pollen. Friendly service and generous portions make this a must stop place for me every couple of weeks.

Daytrip to France

Have you ever had Monkey Bread? I can promise you that what ever you tried before won’t stand up to the one you will find at Celine Patisserie. Yummy cinnamon sugar twisted around with a croissant type dough and baked to perfection... so good! And speaking of croissants, I think theirs are the best if flying directly to Paris isn’t an option. A little outdoor seating area makes it a lovely spot to grab a coffee and pastry any day of the week.

Neighborhood go-to

Greenwood Hardware is the perfect local hardware store with everything. Need a piece of glass cut? Need some veggie starts or seeds? How about a new hot water tank? They have it and more. From Ron, to Mike and now to Willow, Greenwood Hardware has stayed locally owned and always friendly. Sometimes they even sell baby chicks!

*note from Amanda & Isabelle: we have such great childhood memories going there with our parents, especially for the holiday celebration in the parking lot!

If you like tea…

You might sense a theme here, but I love our neighborhood! We have several great spots for coffee and treats, but one thing that’s a little harder to find around here is a a place that does tea really well. Coyle’s Bakeshop does tea right, plus throughout the year they host afternoon tea events (note from Amanda & Isabelle: so tasty!). The pastries are delicious and they offer special holiday baked goods you can pre-order.
